Studying in the UK : Tier 4

UK universities provide internationally recognized qualifications of the highest standards. They also offer more opportunities than ever before: there are currently over 18,000 postgraduate taught courses and research opportunities to choose from.

The UK higher education system combines the best elements of tradition and modernity. Some UK universities are among the oldest in the world; others are among the newest. Many provide degrees with a strong vocational foundation and enjoy good links with businesses and professional organizations.

Value for money

The quality of UK degrees is one reason why so many people come to the UK to study each year. Another is value for money. Unlike the equivalent programs in the United States or Australia, most UK Masters programs can be completed in one year.

As of 31 March 2009 foreign nationals wishing to study in the UK must apply for a Tier 4 student visa.

Tier 4 of the points based system caters for students seeking to study at universities, colleges and other educational institutions throughout the UK. The Tier 4 visa does not offer a route to settlement in the UK and does not provide the opportunity to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain and subsequently British naturalization.

Like all other tier visas under the points based system (except the Tier 1 visa), a successful application for a Tier 4 visa requires a certificate of sponsorship from a relevant sponsor - that sponsor being the educational institution offering the place to study.

How points are awarded for the student categories

Students should score a total of 40 points across the different criteria, before a sponsor will issue them with the sponsor’s ‘confirmation of acceptance for studies’ (CoS) certificate. The CoS is not a physical document it is a unique reference number issued to the student, which is used when the student is making their student visa application. We arrange admission only from A or Highly Trusted Colleges and Universities.
